The Town of Egremont
Massachusetts is tucked into the green southwestern Berkshire Hills. It
is a small residential town of about 1,000 which serves those who have
traditionally made their full-time home there as well as newcomers whose
second home or weekend home is in the community. Egremont is a quiet town,
its residents note, with no night-life, low taxes, and exceptional public
services such as police, highway and volunteer fire department.
A multiple-acre town park offers
recreational facilities for all residents; ball fields, picnic areas, tennis
and volleyball courts, archery range, hiking and horse trails. Children
in Egremont attend the brand-new $25 million elementary/high school campus
complex, with electronics and computers designed for the 21st century.
The new complex offers auditorium, gyms, playing fields and other facilities
for the community, while the educational program provides an innovative
long-block class-time schedule which is attracting educators from all over
the United States. The town has two small commercial centers as well as
post offices in North and South Egremont.
Egremont Massachusetts is located
in Located in Southwestern Massachusetts, bordered by Alford on the north;
Great Barrington on the east and south; Sheffield on the east; Mt. Washington
on the south; and Copake and Hillsdale, New York, on the west. Egremont
is 24 miles south of Pittsfield and 139 miles southwest of Boston. |
